Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, 99.

Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, world renowned cardiovascular surgeon, died 11 July 2008.  He was 99.  He was a pioneer in cardiovascular surgery and is known for inventing many surgical instruments and devices.  I best know him as the namesake of the DeBakey forceps.  Apparently, he was more brilliant than just being an inventor of some dissecting surgical forceps.  A NYT article pays tribute.
